Inspired by a little-known play by the late downtown luminary Glenn O’Brien, Junk follows two artists spiraling through the hell of drug addiction. We first encounter the seemingly healthy, if aimless young couple, experimenting with new pathways to the enlivening experiences they once hoped to find in their work and relationship. We follow their journey towards the incontinence and insanity that waits at the frontiers of experience and pleasure. The entire play revolves around the motif of the Odyssey, only aboard a Ship of Fools, without beginning or goal. The couple sails to Ithaca not knowing that Ithaca no longer exists, drawn not by the siren song but by the impossible promise of a greater satisfaction to come.
